The Borrow/Return Books Only Login provides a limited view of the system.
This mode can be used to carry out basic library functions such as:
- Loaning and returning books
- Viewing the Catalogue
- Checking a student’s loans
- Reserving a book (if the Librarian has enabled this in Library Settings)
Borrow/Return Books Only mode does not allow users to access all parts of the system, such as Student/Staff Details and Settings. This mode is particularly useful if the school does not have a full-time librarian and the library is left unattended for any length of time.

Logging in
- Library users log into this mode using the Borrow/Return Books Only button on the Home screen.
- Library users usually need to enter a password to access this mode.
- Libresoft staff create a Borrow/Return Books Only password when we set up a school’s library system. This is included in the Welcome Pack we send schools. However we recommend schools change this password to something else. The Librarian can do this on the Reset Passwords page.
- It is also possible for the login to be unlocked on a particular computer so that the password does not need to be entered.
Tasks
- Log in as a Librarian and unlock the Borrow/Return Books Only page.
- Once you’ve done that, log into the Borrow/Return Books Only mode. Explore the functionality, such as loaning books, viewing loans, viewing the Catalogue.
