Students have their own logins for Librarian. When they log in they see a unique library view.
Once logged in, students can:
- View the catalogue
- View their own and approved book reviews
- Write/edit their book reviews
- View their current loans and loan history
- From December 2024, view recommendations.
- Reserve a book for themselves (if reservations set in Library Settings)
- Renew their loans (if toggled on in Library Settings)
- Change their password (if toggled on in Library Settings)
- Circulate books (if toggled on in Library Settings – this should be used with caution!)
Librarians can also set certain students as student librarians. Student librarians still log in as usual. They see slightly different menu options when they log in. The basic student librarian functions include adding books and checking loans. Librarians can also adjust User Control Settings to enable student librarians to do different things.
We set up the basic login method for students at the beginning of the library subscription. All students are assigned a unique barcode in the system. They are also allocated a password based on a pattern. Students log in using a combination of their barcode number and password.
Password pattern
The pattern for student passwords is Site ID + ch + First two initials of first name and surname (case sensitive).
- The Site ID is on the Library Settings page (Settings > Library Settings)
- ch = label for child (student)
Example: The Site ID is 123. A student called Belinda Smith with a barcode of 12345 would log in as follows:
Enter barcode (can be typed or scanned): 12345
Enter password: 123chBeSm

This process is also fully explained in the Welcome Pack that is sent to a school when we set up their library site.
Tasks
- Log in as a Librarian and make a note of a couple of student logins (noting the pattern above).
- While logged in as a librarian, set at least one of your example students as a student librarian.
- Practice logging in as a student/student librarian and exploring the different functionality. If you feel like it, why not play around with User Control Settings too!
